Scotland & UK Travel Boycott? Lockerbie Bomber Release Sparks Outrage
Scotland’s decision to release Lockerbie terrorist bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi on compassionate grounds has sparked a huge amount of online outrage.
After a weekend of invective aimed at Scotland from family, friends and supporters of the victims of Pan Am Flight 103, a website has now been set up, calling for a travel boycott of Scotland and UK.
The site boycottscotland.com (via The Times, UK) says that “Unless the Scottish government rescinds this decision to release al-Megrahi, and if the British Parliament continues to avoid intervening in the matter, we urge all Americans to protest this action by boycotting the United Kingdom and Scotland in full. Don’t travel to Scotland or do business there (or in the United Kingdom in general) and don’t buy any British or Scottish products.
The biggest concern, of course, is that a boycott of Scotch Whiskey would put Alcoholics Anonymous out of business. According to the Times, the Scotch Whisky Association is monitoring the situation closely.
The Lockerbie bomber, meanwhile, has flown the coop and is safely ensconced in his Libyan abode, awaiting final passage to the hereafter and the promised 72 virgins.
