The Travel Top 50 List
Richard Green, travel expert for the Sunday Times, UK, answers the 50 most asked travel questions. Lot of interesting stuff in there, and well worth a read. There’s the question about San Francisco being warm and sunny, but the water freezing cold. Answer being to visit www.bigblueplanet.com and find the water temperature at your chosen destination at any time of the year. There’s the question about the best seat on a plane. If you want more legroom, then go for the emergency-exit seat. If you’re traveling with toddlers, get a seat near the toilet and galley. Or visit www.seatguru.com for detailed seat plans. I’d like to print the entire travel Q & A here, but you can just head over to the Sunday Times and read it there.
Since we’re doing this ‘best of travel’ thing, here’s a few more lists and resources I bumped into on the internet.
50 top tips for travelling with kids - With a bit of know-how, travelling with small children needn’t be a hassle. Author of the new Rough Guide to Travel with Babies & Young Children, Fawzia Rasheed de Francisco offers an essential checklist for parents. Fawzia Rasheed de Francisco, The Observer
50 travel websites - Before you begin to crack the travel guides, pick a destination or plan a travel itinerary, visit some of these off the beaten path travel sites. Brooke Dowd, Luggage Online. Note: It says ‘50 travel websites you never heard of’, but since I’ve heard of most of them, I left out the ‘never heard’ part. The list is still a pretty good roundup of what’s worth visiting for travel planning, deals, community interaction and destination guides. Couple of new entries I’d like to add to this list include www.Travelmuse.com and www.Uptake.com
Best Travel Books - Here’s the list of top 10 travel books for 2007 from Amazon, and this is a listing of archived book reviews from Worldhum.com. I’d love to give you a list of the all time best travel books, but the latest one is for 2006.
If these lists interest you, Lonely Planet has a blue list, sorted by keyword. And you can create your own ‘blue lists’. If you have any more top travel lists, feel free to post in the comments.
