Sniper Fires Shots From Hayworth Hotel LA
AP report says a sinper fired shots from the Hayworth Hotel in Spring St at around 8 pm. Police cordoned off the area around Broadway and Spring Street between 5th and 7th streets until the sniper was found at around 9.15 pm. No one was hurt. More details to follow.
Report says the hotel is located at 626 S Spring St, but the only place I can find listed under that address is the 626 Reserve Wine Bar. Since we’re on this case, the 626 Reserve has happy hours Monday to Friday, 4 to 7 pm, with $2 off on a glass. And they feature live music and wine tastings. Goh Kurusawa and his acoustic tunes are headlined for the 27th of May.
In other news, Richard Branson’s Virgin brand may be planning to buy a hotel in Los Angeles and ‘Virginise’ it, along with sister hotels in New York, London and Atlanta. Report by the Times, UK, says that Virgin has been approached by leading hotel chains. It will take over their existing sites, gut them, and “Virginise” them. Some of the new Virgin hotels, starting with Atlanta, will have casinos but the emphasis will be on overall entertainment, rather than simply roulette and black-jack. “We think we can offer a more complete package than most resorts.”
Mike Oppenheim, M.D., writes about the illegal cut doctors in Los Angeles pay to the hotel concierge for referring guests who need medical care. He write to the California Medical Board, but says that the Board always replies back that they are aware of the problem, but no action is taken.
