Hotels for Secret Affairs
Like I said yesterday, I had this unpublished piece on scandals, romantic or otherwise, at various hotels in Washington, which I was mulling about publishing here. But then, I bump into this article in Concierge which lists the ‘best hotels for an affair’. The writer, Danielle Pergament, starts off by dumping on Eliot Spitzer not for paying for sex, but for the location. She has guidelines for choosing a hotel for a discreet affair - A beautiful room to hide away in, a bed the size of a small country, a fantastic restaurant within room-service distance, and, above all, discretion.
Out of all the New York hotels, Pergament selects Lafayette House on 38 East 4th St as the best place to engage in a romantic weekend tryst. Photo credit & copyrights - Lafayette House.
Advantages - No front desk (you call ahead, and a staffer will open the door for you), small (15 rooms), romantic (king size bed, plush and heavy furniture, floor to ceiling windows with heavy drapes, antiques and carpets, mini-bar, hardwood floors, deep soaking tub, fireplace).
Heck, even the website is so sparse (while being classy), it looks like they’re deliberately trying to be as low-profile as possible. Info: Lafayette House - 38 E 4th St New York, NY 10003; (212) 505-8100; www.lafayettenyc.com
But just selecting the right hotel won’t be enough, as every star in Hollywood star learns in the first nascent days of stardom. How to avoid the paparazzi is both a science and a fine art. So here’s tips for steering clear of the panting shutter-bug hounds from both sides of the fence. One from celeb photographer Gary Sun, and one from actress Emmy Rossum.
I don’t want this post to turn into an agony aunt kinda thing, so here’s an article which offers an invaluable resource for serial marital cheaters - Affair tips so you can screw, but not screw up.
