Cottages at Little River Cove, Mendocino, CA
Little River, CA is a sleepy town in Northern California along Highway 1, two miles south of Mendocino. Its location on the Pacific Coast with direct access to the oceanfront, the relatively undeveloped and virginal landscape, and closeness to Mendocino and Fort Bragg mean that Little River is a perfect spot for a weekend getaway from San Francisco. And in this picturesque setting, situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, are the Cottages at Little River Cove.
The two acre property consists of 9 individual and furnished cottages (each capable of accomodating a family or group of four) with fully equipped kitchens, baths, bedrooms, propane fireplaces, free wi-fi and coffee and all the comforts of home, including designer beds, granite counters in the kitchen, flat screen television and a DVD player. And with nightly prices from $199 to $229, Innkeepers Tony de la Torre and Julie Wood can easily afford to offer services like in-room massages, concierge service and grocery pre-order service to keep the kitchen stocked with your favorite stuff when you arrive.
Three of the cottages are pet friendly, and the Inn offers special amenities and extras for guests with pets staying at one of these three cottages, including a pet welcome kit when you arrive. Each of the pet-friendly cottages comes with a pet bed and there is an outdoor pet shower to rinse away the sand from a day of play on the beach.
Each of the cottages has its own deck where you can relax with a cup of coffee and a newspaper, or join in on the fun with other guests at the communal patio. The property is surrounded by over 2 acres of gardens and woods.
Attractions and things to do in the area include a sea kayak tour, a ride on the Mendocino Skunk Train which runs 40 miles from Fort Bragg on the coast to Willits on Highway 101, fishing trips out of Noyo Harbor, horseback riding tours or a luxury wine tour to the nearby Anderson Valley.
Let’s just say that if you’re bored with the usual San Francisco vacations and Napa hotels which advertise themselves as getaways but are packed to the rafters with pesky tourists, then Little River offers a taste of what a real getaway should be like.
