Travelzoo, a New York based company, has unveiled the world’s first interactive advertising campaign at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport involving large-scale projections that encourage traveler participation and feature breaking news on travel deals. In Concourse C, travelers can star in their own ad as they are projected into two huge interactive plasma screens. Along with being projected into the plasma screens, travelers are personally greeted by Travelzoo in the advertisement.

As you can tell from the image, the ads are no doubt interesting and fun and more importantly, effective. I mean, what better place to put an interactive ad featuring travel deals than at an international airport with 3.5 million travelers per month?

In a press statement, TravelZoo’s Head of Marketing for North America, Erik Qualman, said that “We are thrilled to be the first to show consumers the best deals published by Travelzoo in real time, interactive projections. The high impact and large scale of the wall projections and plasma screens are not only memorable for travelers who pass by but it gives them a chance to directly interact with the brand.”

On a more general note, I keep track of movements in the travel industry, and of late, TravelZoo keeps popping up everywhere. Travelzoo curently reaches about 11 million travel enthusiasts from all over the world, by means of the Travelzoo Web site (www.travelzoo.com), and their other internet assets. Their travel deals seem to be getting a lot of attention, both from consumers and from the media, and I have this feeling that the company is poised for a big takeoff.

But to do that, they’re likely going to need to focus more on prospective customers searching specifically for travel deals. There are online travel companies like Uptake  which have a large flow of such visitors, but which do not offer travel deals or take bookings. Makes sense that if Travelzoo can tap into a steady stream of travel search visitors from various sources like Uptake, they could probably become one of the top deal providers in the travel industry.
