Romantic Getaways for Valentine’s Day
Previously on Triphow, you saw reviews of America’s sexiest hotel (Korakia Pensione, Palm Springs, CA) and the best hotels for secret affairs (Lafayette House, New York, NY). Considering that Valentine’s Day is round the corner, here’s a few romantic getaways where romance is in the air, so to speak.
Cavallo Point - Lodge at Golden Gate, San Francisco - Opened in 2008 (see review), Cavallo Point is located at Fort Baker, inside the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in Sausalito, with sweeping views of the Bay, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Has eveything one would expect from a romantic getaway resort - splendid views, rooms in historic buildings lined along the edge of a rolling green plain set in the middle of lush greenery, isolated location but just off a major metropolis, modern amenities combined with a historical touch, excellent wining and dining facilities (there’s a cooking school too) and a full service spa.
They’re also offering a ‘Bayside Romance’ package, in addition to other specials like ‘Weekday Escapes’ and ‘Girlfriend Getaways’. Standard rates from $255 onwards, based on double occupancy. Info: 601 Murray Circle Fort Baker Sausalito, CA 94965; (415) 339-4700; www.cavallopoint.com/; Photo copyrights - Kodiak Greenwood/Cavallo Point.
Before settling down on Cavallo Point, I also considered the Ventana Inn & Spa in Big Sur, CA; Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI; and New York’s Bryant Park Hotel. And also Half Moon Bay and Carmel-by-the-Sea, both of which are shrouded in a fine mist of romance and timeless beauty. There’s some magnificent and historic hotels in Carmel, CA, and The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay is a very well known getaway.
The above listed are all my personal favorites as the best romantic getaways for Valentine’s Day this year. Now, if you want a little more choice, I found this list of the top 20 most romantic cities in the United States, compiled by Amazon, based on sales data of romance novels, relationship and sex books.
