What’s Cool in 2008

Responsible travelMSNBC lists the leading travel trends for 2008 which are likely to impact travelers’ choices. For starters, the list includes eco-travel and conscientious consumption. What the heck is ‘conscientious consumption’? I can barely spell it…Oh, never mind…

Next up on the hip-hop list comes hotels which remind you of home, or a home away from home, with all the little comforts and special things which you get at home. Well, so long as I don’t have to take out the garbage, I’m quite happy to put up with a homely hotel.

No.3 on the list is taken up by luxury spas which provide more than just a facial. Spa resorts today are full resort hotels, with everything from golf courses to five star cuisine and the promise of a mind blowing vacation.

Fourth on the trendy list is budget traveling, which more and more Americans will likely be opting for, out of necessity, as the dollar tumbles and crashes. Gone are the days when a European vacation meant a swanky trip, breezing through London and Paris and Berlin. The focus now is on Eastern Europe and Latin America, where the dollar is still king, with places like Hungary, Argentina and Brazil hosting bucketloads of Gringos.

Rounding up the list is a preference for upgraded air plane and airport services, with London’s Heathrow airport trailblazing it’s way in to a hi-tech designer revolution of shops, hotels, restaurants and transport services aimed at passengers waiting for connecting flights. Boeing and Airbus are involved in a vicious and protracted fight to come up with the most comfortable and convinient flight experience.

  1. I like this site about travel and it outlines the new hip ways travelers are taking vacations these days. I totally appreciate the fact that they mention travelers are not budget conscious. This has always been the case with me. I would rather enjoy spending my money on the surroundings with only decent, not decadent land environments. A clean warm safe comfy bed is all that is needed. I also like the trend towards ‘conscientious consumption’ and thinking green. This is very important in our lifetime and our daily lives. It mentions all the comforts of home as well in this article. These attributes cannot be ignored. The ideal Hotel is sometimes the one that feels you are at home in your own comfortable surroundings. I work for Cambria Suites so I have the inside track.

  2. Sounds like they’re on the right track there. Oh, well, I wouldn’t mind ANY travel right now… We’re having a dull winter season and any trip would do!!!!

  3. That’s probably the post holiday blues. January is definitely a dull month.
